Frequently Asked Questions

Fillr is a free online tool that allows you to quickly and easily fill Word documents (.docx) with placeholders. It is ideal for recurring documents such as contracts, invoices, quotes, letters, certificates, and forms. Instead of manually editing the same fields each time, you can create a template with placeholders once and fill them with just a few clicks.

Placeholders are written in double curly braces. Use {{Name}} for single-line input fields (e.g., {{FirstName}}, {{Company}}, {{Date}}). For multi-line text fields, add three dots at the end: {{Description...}}. The names inside the braces can be freely chosen and should describe the content to be inserted.

Fillr exclusively supports the .docx format (Microsoft Word 2007 and newer). Older .doc files, PDFs, ODT files, or other formats are not supported. If you have an older Word file, open it in Word and save it as .docx.

No, absolutely not! Fillr works entirely in the browser. Your documents are never uploaded to or stored on a server. All processing takes place locally on your computer. Your data never leaves your browser, ensuring maximum data security and privacy.

Yes! Fillr offers two save options: You can save individual values for each placeholder (e.g., your address, company name, etc.), and they will appear as suggestions for future documents. You can also save complete templates with all filled values to reuse them for similar documents. All data is stored locally in the browser.

Yes, Fillr is fully responsive and works on all modern devices. The interface automatically adapts to the screen size. However, for the best experience, we recommend using it on a desktop computer, as editing documents is more comfortable on a larger screen.

There are several possible reasons: 1) Check if the placeholders are written exactly in the format {{Name}} or {{Name...}}. 2) Make sure you're using the correct curly braces { } (not parentheses or square brackets). 3) Sometimes Word adds invisible formatting - try deleting the placeholder and retyping it. 4) Don't copy the placeholder from other programs; type it directly in Word.

Yes! Fillr only replaces the placeholder text and preserves all existing formatting (font, size, color, bold, etc.). If you want the replaced text to have specific formatting, apply that formatting to the placeholder in your Word template.

Since processing happens in the browser, the maximum file size depends on your computer and browser. Generally, documents up to 50 MB can be processed without issues. For very large documents with many images, processing may take a bit longer.

Yes, Fillr is completely free to use without restrictions. There are no hidden costs, no registration, and no advertising. The tool was developed to simplify a common workflow and is available to all users without limitations.

Currently, Fillr requires an internet connection as the JavaScript libraries are loaded via CDN. An offline-capable version is planned for the future. In the meantime, you can load the page with an existing internet connection and then use it even with a weak connection.

Yes, Fillr is fully available in German and English. The language is automatically detected based on your browser settings but can be changed at any time via the language switcher in the top right corner. The placeholder names in your documents can be in any language.
